This article is about a series entry (the 36th) in the Super Sentai series.
Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters (特命戦隊ゴーバスターズ,Tokumei Sentai Gōbasutāzu, translated as Special Operations Squadron Go-Busters) is the title of the 36th entry in the Super Sentai series. It premiered on February 26, 2012, and joined Kamen Rider Fourze, replacing Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and Kamen Rider Wizard after Fourze's finale as a part of the Super Hero Time programming block on TV Asahi. The series follows a spy motif and follows a group of warriors in their goal to stop a malevolent computer virus and its organization. On February 17, 2013, it was replaced by Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger as part of the Super Hero Time block.
This show was aired in South Korea in 2013 as Power Rangers Go-Busters (파워레인저 고버스터즈 Paworeinjeo Gobeoseuteojeu).
In 2015 and 2016, an adaptation of Go-Busters was dropped in favor of Kyoryuger instead. In 2018, following the acquisition of the franchise by Hasbro, the show's footage and props were used for Power Rangers Beast Morphers, following Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel.
"Neo AD 2012. The massive energy source, Enetron, is the foundation of city functions. After it are the Vaglass, a threat to humanity. The Go-Busters are youths entrusted with special missions to fight and protect the people."
The urban lives of the city are now run by a major power source known as Enetron (エネトロン,Enetoron). An evil organization from a different dimension called Vaglass (ヴァグラス,Vagurasu) aims to threaten the city by stealing the Enetron from it. Three warriors are chosen by the Energy Management Center to be a group of elite heroes, known as Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, that will protect the city from any evil threat. Along with their partners, known as Buddy Roids (バディロイドヅ,Badi Roidozu), they are tasked with stopping Vaglass from obtaining the Enetron from the city. Heroes and villains alike battle alongside "roids" and giant villainous "MegaZords" (メガゾード,Megazōdo).[2]
Buglars (1-3, 5-10, 13-17, 19, Movie, 20, 22-23, 27-32, DVD, 33, 38-39, 41, Go-Busters vs. Gokaiger, vs Dobutsu Sentai Go-Busters, 45, 49-50, Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters, Chou Super Hero Taisen, Kyuranger vs. Space Squad, Red Battle! All Sentai Rally!!, Zenkaiger vs. Kiramager vs. Senpaiger)
Go-Busters was one of the rare instances in Super Sentai where the home media releases of each episode would come with an audio commentary by the cast and crew members.[3] The home media releases of the summer movie "Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters the Movie: Protect the Tokyo Enetower!" director's cut also included a commentary track. The only other season to have audio commentaries for every episode was Donbrothers, which premiered 10 years after Go-Busters. Except for Donbrothers, the audio commentaries were released on TTFC, instead of the home media releases.
Go-Busters contains several references to Power Rangers. Usually, these references refer to 'firsts' in Sentai history of plot devices already in place in Power Rangers.
The mecha are called MegaZords for both the heroes and villains.
The Morphin Brace announces, "It's Morphin' Time!" when activated, which was used throughout Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Zeo, the first two Power Rangers adaptations of Super Sentai shows. The use of the phrase returned, beginning with Power Rangers Megaforce in 2013.
Messiah is a floating head from a different dimension, like Zordon.
Powered Custom is similar to Battlizers, a mode which the Red Rangers combine with the Megazords or support robots.
Notes[]
This is the first Sentai team to have their name be in plural format as their official name, being Go-Busters as opposed to "Go-Buster".
The HTML code for various tokusatsu articles from Wikipedia can be found in the opening for the first episode; most notably overview an entry readingSuper Sentai which mentions various other Toei-related properties of the past that have an American connection, including Spider-Man, Voltron, and Sailor Moon.
This is the first Sentai to completely replace the opening music mid-season.
For April Fools Day 2014, it was announced Go-Busters was going to be adapted in 2015 as Power Rangers Energy Chasers, and was going to air on the Saban Brands owned Vortexx block. If this were true, the show would've ended up without a home, as Vortexx ended in September 2014.
With its premiere preceding Beast Morphers (2019) by seven years, Go-Busters (2012-13) is the oldest Sentai relative to its adaptation. The 2020 adaptation of the crossover between Go-Busters and Kyoryuger came in six years (2014) following its source.
Two cast members of Go-Busters previously played a yellow ranger. Hiroya Matsumoto, now playing Masato Jin, previously played Tsubasa Ozu, while Suzuka Morita, known for playing Kotoha Hanaori guest starred as Gavan's assistant Shelly.
Yellow Buster would later portray Akyanba in Kyuranger.
This is the first Korean-dubbed Sentai which kept the original team's name.
Go-Busters was the first modern Super Sentai series not to use spandex for the Ranger suits, the suits instead being made of leather.
